Nothing to wear?

Closet full of clothes but nothing to wear….ever get that feeling? I do all the time which normally has the effect of sending William into cardiac arrest! I’ll be the first to admit that I have a lot of clothes but sometimes nothing takes my fancy (I’m sure I’m not alone in this). Today I’ll share a few tricks I’ve learned over the years on creating new looks with what I have in my wardrobe.

The Classic

Every wardrobe has a pair of jeans and a white shirt. Why not do something different and wear your shirt buttoned up all the way for a change? This instantly creates a chic new look. Layering is a great way to create a fresh look with old items. I’ve layered this classic pairing with a loose see-through black knit to create a monochrome effect. I’ve also layered on a few pieces of statement jewellery (4 necklaces to be precise) that I never normally wear together. Whack on a pair of bright shoes and the new look is complete. To go the extra mile, try wearing your hair in a different style to how you normally do. I’ve tried a messy high bun to compliment this look.

Mix casual with smart

There are some items in my wardrobe marked clearly as casual/weekend attire only. Wearing these items to work just won’t fly, for example shorts, which is generally the case for most office jobs. At the other end of the spectrum are strictly formal attire which at the outset looks like it is only wearable in the boardroom with Alan Sugar yelling “you’re fired” to everyone! Mixing the two together, as odd as it may seem, can create a refreshing new look. Here I’m wearing a pair of shorts with a formal crop blazer. Add a clutch and flats to tone down the formal look of the blazer and voila I’ve got a new outfit to carry me to the next weekend brunch!

Layering

I’ve already mentioned that layering is the best way to create a new outfit from your existing wardrobe. Have you ever tried layering a top over a dress though? It’s not a conventional kind of layering but a great way to create a new outfit!

Have you got any wardrobe recycling tips to share?? I would love to hear it!
