When I first noticed prices at high street stores exceeding the £500 mark I thought the retail world had lost it’s marbles. Whilst designer collaborations with high street favourites has become really popular in recent years (H&M being the leader each year – their collaboration with Balmain released last month sold out within minutes!), you have to be pretty determined to be able to bag one of these! Not everyone has the time or will to camp overnight for these limited pieces so it was only going to be a matter of time for the high street to jump on this bandwagon and start releasing their own ‘designer collection’.
I’m sporting a turquoise silk blouse from the Reiss Premium collection and I think the high street is onto a winner!
Brands currently with a high-end collection include:
- Reiss (Reiss Premium)
- Topshop (Topshop Unique)
- Jigsaw (A-line)
- Warehouse (Warehouse Premium)
- River Island (Rive Island Studio)
Top designers have been releasing affordable ranges to tap into the high street market (enter See by Chloe, Michael Michael Kors, Marc by Marc Jacobs to list a few) so makes sense for the high street brands to take their slice back. And best of all, you get all this without snobby salesgirl casting their judgemental eye for not being able to afford ‘the real thing’!
